For Black History Month this year, YouthBuild Philly proudly brought back its annual social media photo campaign, “I CAN, I WILL,” for the third year in a row – this time honoring the Class of 2025! Designed to celebrate our students and their Black excellence, the campaign launched during the final 10 days of Black History Month on our school’s Instagram and Facebook accounts.
Each day, we shared two to three powerful images of our young people, capturing their joy and the magic they bring to our school community. These photos were authentic, filled with pride—shoutout to each student for bringing their full selves to the shoot!
This year’s theme, “I AM,” emphasized the beauty, strength, and authenticity of our students, encouraging them to fully embrace who they are. Students had the option to include a prop in their photos representing a personal passion or career aspiration. To make the campaign even more intentional, they also crafted empowering statements to complete the “I Can…, I Will…” phrase.
As a meaningful expression of support, the Board of Trustees signed a resolution on February 28, reaffirming their solidarity with students – particularly in light of the challenges they face today. CEO Le’Yondo Dunn also released a statement on behalf of himself and the Board.
The campaign not only empowered students to take pride in their educational journey but also ensured they felt SEEN and HEARD. For some, it was their first time interacting with certain peers; for others, it was their first time participating in a photoshoot. But for all, it was an opportunity to find and amplify their voice.
We hope this campaign inspires incoming students, showing them that they, too, can create meaningful change and shape a brighter future for themselves and their families.

We are thrilled with the success of this year’s campaign and look forward to exploring new and innovative ways to showcase our students in the years ahead!
