Director of Career Partnerships & Postsecondary Initiatives
Jennifer grew up in the Wynnefield section of Philadelphia and spent much of her life swimming. She attended Howard University on a partial athletic and academic scholarship and found her passion for education while working with a human rights education program through Amnesty International at a Washington, DC high school. Since earning her undergraduate degree, she has worked primarily with low-income, first generation to college students to support them in earning their high school diploma and in making a successful into a postsecondary option. Prior to coming to YouthBuild Philadelphia, she worked at Temple University as an Academic Advisor in the College of Liberal Arts and as an Admissions Counselor, on the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, as the Associate Director of College Retention at Philadelphia Futures and as a Student Success Specialist for Developmental Education at Community College of Philadelphia.
Jennifer believes in the power of education to change communities and has spent much of her professional career working to expose young people and their families to postsecondary options and create action plans. By helping young people to come up with a clear vision, develop strategies and make connections to supports and resources, they are not only more likely to persist, but will be prepared to step into a career once they have completed their chosen program.
