Child Development Associate Coordinator
Justine Philyaw is a Philadelphia native committed to working with and for young people. After graduating from La Salle University, Justine started teaching high school English. She came to YouthBuild Philly in the fall of 2012 to teach language arts, and in 2013, she helped launch the Child Development Associate (CDA) vocational training track. Justine has a Master of Arts degree in English from Rutgers University, and she earned her Pennsylvania Principal Certification through Temple University. Working with the CDA program allows Justine to utilize both her teaching experience and her school administration credentials. Justine is especially passionate about restorative practices, student leadership development, and non-cognitive or professional skills. Outside of YouthBuild, Justine is connected to the rowing community in our area. She coaches the undergraduate rowing team at Rutgers-Camden and the Rutgers Alumni Rowing Team. Justine has helped organize several national regattas on the Cooper River and continues to row competitively herself.
