YouthBuild Philadelphia is proud to announce that it has been named the recipient of a Department of Labor (DOL) YouthBuild grant for 2009. Our program will receive an initial increment of $687,500, with increments awarded for a two-year period (and a third year based on available funding).
In a press release from the Department of Labor, Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis said:
President Obama and I are delighted to be able to increase funding for this promising program, which does so much for youth and their communities,” said Secretary Solis. “The YouthBuild program not only assists young people in obtaining education and skills, but also gives them a sense of accomplishment and empowers them as they give back to their communities.
YouthBuild Philadelphia is one of 183 programs in the U.S. and nine in Pennsylvania to be awarded DOL grants this year. The programs include workforce investment boards, faith-based and community groups, and local and nonprofit housing development agencies.
